The ISM Films Academy in Burbank, CA started off with networking with other teachers and film professionals from throughout the country.
The first day we loaded in vans and rode to Disney Studios where we attended a Question and Answer (QA) session with Brigham Taylor, Executive VP of Creative Development & Production at Walt Disney Company. Mr. Taylor talked about the production of Pirates of the Caribbean and other famous movies. We learned there are several departments and processes a screenplay must pass through in order to be made into a feature film. Movie posters were on the hallway walls throughout the Disney Studios. I spotted the movie poster for Old Yeller.

We traveled back to the Marriott hotel classroom and learned about film Development and Pre- Production, through instruction from film professionals. We explored the ISM Films curriculum, where I learned the nuts and bolts of story structure, screenplay writing, crew hiring, storyboarding, location scouting, and budgeting.
During the evening hours, we toured the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Kodak Theatre, Egyptian Theatre, and Hollywood Boulevard. The HDR photographs of the Marriott hotel, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, El Capitan and Hollywood Boulevard were taken by Julie Roberds.
